 August 2017- July 2018:

1) Steve Nash Basketballhttp://www.basketball.bc.ca/snyb-home  (select Comox) is once again being offered this fall  on Wednesdays (Sept 20th-Nov 22nd) in the Comox Valley for grades K-12. The program is separated into  4 age groupings (Coed K- grade 2, Coed grades 3-5 and Boys and Girls grades 5-7, and Boys and Girls grades 8-12) and emphasizes skill development, fun, hard work and small games for participants all skill levels. **Now offering online payment**   Email Peter Parke (cvstevenash@gmail.com) for more information. 2) CVAA Fastbreak Fall Girl’s basketball program: This competitive girl’s team program runs this fall on Fridays from September to December (grades 5-12 @ 5:15-6:45 pm) at École au Coeur-de-l’ile, Comox. U13, U14 and U 17 teams will practice together and be entered in several club tournaments (dates TBA). Head coaches, Grant Ashlee and Peter Parke, have coached basketball for many years and emphasize hard work, shooting, dribbling and other technical skills and speed in their practices and games. 3) Kidsport will be holding an open house on Saturday September 9th from 11 am-2 pm at the Comox Valley Sports Center and Turf Field  There will be up to 10 organized sports (including basketball) and several other activities for kids and adults to try with emphasis on fun and exercise. There will be representatives talking about their sports, costs, practices per week, length of season, why kids should participate in the sport and answer any questions parents and children may have. There is free skating and  rentals from 12-2 pm, free food (hotdogs, snacks, drinks and healthy fruits and veggies) and kid’s raffle prizes.  Kidsport representatives will available to discuss financial support for young athletes and to answer any questions about our local Kidsport chapter. 4) UVIC Vikes High School Girls Elite Camp (Friday, Sept 8th  (6:00-8:30 pm) and Saturday Sept 9th (10:00 am -12:00 noon and 1:00-3:00 pm)  UVIC head coach Dani Sinclair, UVIC Vikings players and coaches and a variety of BC college and high school coaches  will host the best grade 11 and 12 players from BC and Alberta in this invitational camp (60-100 players).  Contact Brett Westcott (westcott@shaw.ca) for more information.

5) High School and Elementary School Basketball: practice and games start in November with playoffs and jamborees in February and March. Please contact your local high school or elementary school athletic director for more information. Please encourage younger players to attend local high school games to grow their knowledge and enjoy some entertaining game action.

6) North Island Elementary School  GIRLS and BOYS  basketball jamborees!  March 2018 at Mark Isfeld, GP Vanier or Highland Secondary Schools.  Preference will be given to grade 6/7 teams, and then to grade 5/6 teams. 7) CVAA Fastbreak Spring Boys and Girl’s (grades K-12 ) basketball program returns in the spring (April – June 2018) with a two day per week schedule . Boys and Girls of all skill levels will practice on  Wednesdays and Fridays and compete in highly competitive weekend tournaments in U13, 15 and 17 age groups.  Online registration and payment available in January 2018 (drpedro0915@gamil.com)

8) Comox Valley Post-Season  leagues and practice sessions (March & April 2018). Grade 8 & 9 boys at GP Vanier (Run and Gun League: Larry Street) and Grade 5-12 girls (CVAA Fastbreak) focusing on skill development and competitive games for local players.

7) Thunderball Sunday Basketball League (March-May 2018: Larry Street) for grades 4-7 boys and girls. Skills, teamwork and fun emphasized in this popular camp  (larrystreetcar@gmail.com)

8) Vancouver Island Regional Boys and Girls Basketball Teams (U12, U13, U14, U15, U16 and U17) Participants pre-register at www.basketball.bc.ca, where further information including costs is also available (http://www.basketball.bc.ca/u14-athlete-development-camp). Final rosters of 12 players per team travel to the Langley Event Center to play in the Provincial Regional BC Tournament in the U12, U13, U14 and U15 age groups (May 2016).  Team BC will be selected from players attending the regional tournament or from a Supercamp format (U16 and U17)

9) Be sure to follow the games of all the Vancouver Island CIS (University of Victoria http://www.govikesgo.com) and CCAA (Camosun College http://camosun.ca/sports/chargers/ and Vancouver Island University http://mariners.viu.ca/). Also watch for news of the annual CVAA Christmas  road trip to Seattle to watch the University of Washington Husky women and the CVAA Spring Break 2018 Tour of Denmark for CVAA Girls in Grades 10-12!

10) University of Victoria regional camp and POD program for high school girls aged 14-18: UVIC coaches and players run this camp on Sundays throughout the basketball calendar.  This program attracts players from the North and South Island but requires the help of very supportive parents, who alternate driving to UVIC. 11) Victoria and North Island club teams which take place  after the Basketball BC Tournament. Club options range from Elite Victoria-based teams made up of the best high school players on Vancouver Island to less competitive North Island club teams that compete in a variety of summer tournaments throughout BC, Washington State and Oregon (westcott@shaw.ca)

12) 75 minute Private Basketball Sessions (maximum group size = 10)  Wednesdays (5:00 – 6:30 pm) July – September 2017 at Tsolum School (NIDES). Emphasis on fundamental skill development and body language for boys and girls in grades 5-12. Instructors Grant Ashlee, Peter Parke and guest coaches (drpedro0915@gmail.com)  Cost $10 per session

13) DROP IN BASKETBALL at the LINC (free anytime) and Courtenay Recreation Center (free of charge-phone ahead for free gym schedule)  and Cumberland Recreation centers  ($1.50/hr children/$1.60/hr adults-phone ahead for free gym schedule

14) Larry Street runs a 3 day summer camp for boys and girls in July (larrystreetcar@gmail.com)

14) Find an outdoor hoop  (numerous locations around the Comox Valley) and practice 1 hour/day!

15) A wide range a Spring and Summer BASKETBALL Camps are available for boys and girls
