Elite Girls Basketball Camp – Jan 2020

2020 Mark Isfeld Secondary School: Open to GIRLS in Grades 8-12 (grade 6 and 7 ok if players are keen) ($75)

Comox Valley Athletic Association is pleased to bring an elite basketball clinic to the Comox Valley for the second straight year! This is an excellent opportunity to learn new skills and sharpen your game heading into the second half of your school season. These sessions will focus on improving fundamentals and building decision making skills in a competitive environment. Coaches will introduce athlete’s to Canada Basketball’s terms of reference, drills and systems to help them become familiar with Canada’s style of play.

All sessions will be led by high performance coach, Leanne Evans. Leanne Evans has been a recognized member within the Basketball BC and Canada Basketball community for nearly 20 years as both a player and a coach. She has coached with Basketball BC’s high performance programming through POD, Centre for Performance and provincial teams, serving as the U15 head coach for the past three summers. She also served as the lead assistant at the University of Victoria for 6 seasons. Leanne is a former national team player who played 8 years with team Canada, as well as a two time National Champion with the UBC Thunderbirds.

Aieisha Luyken and Jenna Krug will serve as lead assistant coaches for this clinic. They were both impact players at the USPORTS level, with Aieisha playing five years for the University of the Fraser Valley and Jenna playing 5 years for the University of Victoria. Since graduating, both have been involved with coaching in the community as well as with Basketball BC, both as provincial team assistants and with the Centre of Performance. Aieisha just graduated as a registered massage therapist from Langara College and Jenna is currently completing her masters of physiotherapy degree at UBC.

Greetings all Comox Valley Basketballers and parents! Thank you for showing interest in the Steve Nash Basketball Program (SNBP) ! This is the 3nd year that SNBP is being run by Comox Valley Athletic Association (CVAA) and coached by longtime community coaches, Grant Ashlee and Peter Parke. The CVAA Fastbreak program is entering its fourth season after very successful inaugural 2016, 17 and 18 seasons that saw three girls team compete in 2 highly competitive Victoria club tournaments as well as a number of mini tournaments!

CVAA Girls Fall Basketball

Greetings all Comox Valley Basketballers and parents!  Thank you for showing interest in the CVAA Fastbreak Basketball Program (CVAA FBP) !  CVAA FBP that is being run  and coached by longtime community coaches, Grant Ashlee and Peter Parke and is entering its third season after very successful inaugural 2016 and 2017 seasons that saw three girls team compete in 2 highly competitive Victoria club tournaments and a number of mini tournaments!

You are receiving this registration form as a  previous participant in CVAA Fastbreak and/or Comox Valley SNBP, a recipient of the North Island Basketball Newsletter or after an email request. Brar Basketball Clinic

Brar Basketball is pleased to partner with Comox Valley Basketball Association to bring a high level basketball camp to the Comox Valley on December 31st 10 am to 3 pm at Mark Isfeld Secondary School. Coach Avneet Brar is currently an Assistant Coach at Vancouver Island University with the Men’s Basketball Team as well as an Assistant Coach with University of the Fraser Valley Women’s Basketball. Coach Brar brings an extensive experience of working with athletes and developing them towards excelling in high school, college and professional athletics. Avneet has spent time around various NBA programs as well as training with different NBA athletes over the course of the offseason.

Currently, Avneet works with the following athletes from the Comox Valley who are playing Post Secondary athletics.

NASH and SLASH 3 on 3

Greetings all North Island Basketballers and parents! NORTH ISLAND STREETBALL would like to introduce the 1st annual NASH and SLASH 3 on 3 tournament! Run by Comox Valley Athletic Association (CVAA) and created by community coaches, Eli Blake and Peter Parke, this event is one of the few indoor 3 on 3 tournaments offered in BC! The $30 signup fee per team of 3 can be made by cash or cheque payable to CVAA at the event on November 19th or ONLINE at https://cvathletics.ca/events/.

Players will not need a lunch as Thrifty’s, once again, has sponsored this event!

CVAA Referee Clinic

The CVAA is pleased to announce that the second annual CVAA REFEREE Level 1 Clinic (Intro To Refereeing) will be held on November 18th, 2017!! This one day course will cover all the basics of basketball refereeing including rules of the game, fitness, equipment and court dimensions, first aid, hand signals, game management and much more!  The best part is that the course, which is normally priced at $150, is offered free to all grade 8-12 North Island Basketball Players! and  to all other coaches, parents and players involved in any North Island Basketball program!. The CVAA Basketball Referee Level 1 Clinic is taught by longtime Nanaimo basketball referee, Mike James! CVAA SMCA SPORT TRAINER COURSE

Taping and Strapping combined with Athletic Injury Management in a 1 day SPORT TRAINER COURSE hosted in the Comox Valley!! FREE!

CVAA is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a Sport Trainer course offered by the Sports Medicine Council of Alberta (SMCA). Travel to Edmonton or Calgary is normally required to take this course, however, CVAA in its mandate to empower the youth of the Comox Valley to reach the next level, has arranged for a SMCA instructor to come to the Comox Valley to deliver this 1 day course. Cost of the SMCA Sport Trainer course: FREE
Dates: Nov 12th , 2017
Time: 830 am to 230 pm (bring a lunch)
Location: GP Vanier Classroom

Sponsored by CVAA in their mission to encourage youth of the CV to reach for the next level

Registration includes an Athletic Injury Management and Sport Taping & Strapping manual , handouts, and all taping supplies. Participants who go on to complete the two-day course will receive their Achievement of Completion for Athletic Injury Management and Sport Taping & Strapping, which are current for three years.

CVAA NCCP LEARN 2 TRAIN and TRAIN

The CVAA is pleased to announce that the 2ND annual CVAA NCCP Coaching Clinic will be held in October 21st and 22nd 2017!! This two day course will cover all the fundamentals of coaching including practice plans, nutrition, equipment, ethics, first aid, game management and much more! The best part is that the course, which is normally priced at $215, is offered free to all grade 8 to 12 boys and girls that have registered for any CVAA Basketball Program. Clinic registrants not associated with the CVAA Basketball Program will be charged $115 (includes Basketball BC Coaching Membership). The NCCP Learn to Train and Train to Train Courses are taught by longtime Vanier coach Larry Street! Steve Nash Youth Basketball

In partnership with the Steve Nash Foundation and Canada Basketball, BC Basketball is proud to introduce Steve Nash Youth Basketball.

Steve Nash Youth Basketball is a national youth basketball program designed to develop fundamental skills, sportsmanship and a love for the game of basketball. This grassroots initiative supports and empowers community-based recreational groups and facilities, schools and other institutions across Canada in an effort to positively influence youth through the great game of basketball.

The model for Steve Nash Youth Basketball was established after extensive research of existing community basketball programs from across North America and follows the guidelines of Sport Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD). The program is flexible in nature to allow all local organizers to adapt the program and implement it in their community while following the principles and philosophies of the program.

Steve Nash Youth Basketball provides the following:
